Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist as well as host of the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during 1988's presidential debates, that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering for the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. Mitchell reported on a variety of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, as well as arms control. She traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate matters including that of the Iran Contra controversy.
