She was a musician singer-performer, and designer who broke through barriers in the industry. She was at once modern and traditional. She was a Mexican American who united the two worlds together in a unique manner. She was a rising star whose untimely passing splintered it. As is the norm for a gifted, charming young performer is lost too quickly and is buried, many mourned the greatness that she had yet to achieve. As a result fans have been inspired over the years to dig in to work even more to ensure that her achievements won't be lost in the dust. Her tragic murder by a gunman caused emotions in Latino communities, similar the way people reacted following Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. Selena's music, an artist who was hugely success in Latino Communities across North America touched people young and old. Selena has been called by certain people as a Latina Madonna, but she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's family values off stage as well as her involvement in AIDS awareness efforts are exemplary.
